“Having worked within a number of settings for my profession, be it small agency, big agency, in-house, all sorts of freelance I have a good understanding of what it takes to adapt and continue to grow. I also have never subscribed to the politics of the business so will give you a very direct perspective on how these businesses function.”
MY 7 DIMENSIONS OF CAREER SUCCESS
-
What do I love most about my work?
I get to sit around with incredibly talented people and come up with stupid, smart, fun ideas all day. What's not to love?
-
What do I think is the biggest misconception newcomers often have about my field of work?
Unless you're working for yourself, you will not be a creative director straight out the gate. And you might not even want that once you do start working.
-
What do I think is the biggest threat to my industry and/or field of work?
Not enough mentorship. Too many people are promoted without the right qualifications leaving juniors with no guidance.
-
What is your personal approach for maintaining work-life satisfaction?
Ultimately work is work. It will never be as important as family, health, friends. Work will always be there. We're not saving lives :)
-
How do I think people in my field should adapt to stay relevant throughout their career?
I think it's directly related to ego which we all need to let go of. If you're not willing to listen to people around you and you're stuck in your single train of thought you won't be open to learning and creating new opportunities.
-
Looking back, what's one thing I wish I knew about my field before I started?
Speak up without fear. Trust yourself. Trust your own voice. It's why they hired you to begin with!
-
What POV do I bring to the table that challenges the status quo of my industry?
We've become to afraid to put out challenging work. The industry is in a YES mode right now because they are struggling to retain clients. Good creative should challenge the viewer, if everyone likes it, it's probably not saying much.
